PureONE Maintenance Needs
Lye crystallizes out of solution over time, thus plugging up the internal components.
We recommend cleaning your PureONE either; (whichever comes first)
- When you see that lye crystallization is starting for form a crust inside the viewing window, or;
- Every 6 months
How to Perform Maintenance Cleaning
Over time the lye inside the PureONE will begin to crystallize. Also, Brown’s gas generators like the PureONE produce a byproduct (also referred to as “sludge,” which is essentially mineral scale).

c. Insert the narrow end of the rubber stopper into the end of those hose that comes out of the back of your PureONE (to prevent leaking in step e. and j.)
d. Remove the electrolyser cap and Purifier Mount
e. Pour out your lye solution. This can be disposed of down your drain. If you have septic, see “Septic” in “More About”
f. Pour 4-5 cups of hot tap water into your PureONE
g. Tip your PureONE about 45º forward and hold in this position until you see that the reservoir behind the sight window is
completely full of the rinse water
h. Tip your PureONE about 45º backwards until you see that the sight window has drained
i. Repeat steps g) and h) a few times. The rinse water will cool down a bit after 30-60 seconds
j. Drain the cooled rinse water and refill with fresh hot tap water. Repeat step f) to j) a few times until there is no more sludge coming out and there is no indication of lye crystallization in the sight window
k. Drain your PureONE thoroughly buy rocking it back and forth while emptying it to get the last drops out
l. Mix up a new batch of lye solution following the steps on the “Lye Mixing” insert or in “Assembly Instructions” in this manual.
